Jogorku Kenesh and United Nations Deepen Partnership to Advance the Sustainable Development Goals

21 July 2026

The Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Nations have further advanced their strategic partnership in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the Parliamentary Working Group on the SDGs and the United Nations Country Team agreeing on practical priorities and modalities for future cooperation.

The second joint meeting of the Parliamentary Working Group on the SDGs and the United Nations Country Team brought together Members of Parliament and heads of UN entities to discuss how cooperation between the Jogorku Kenesh and the United Nations can best support the implementation of Kyrgyzstan’s National Development Programme 2030 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Chaired by Member of Parliament and Chair of the Parliamentary Working Group on the SDGs, Mr. Altynbek Kudaiberdiev, and United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms. Antje Grawe, the meeting agreed to develop a focused framework for cooperation between the Jogorku Kenesh and the United Nations. Discussions covered priority areas for joint engagement, including SDG-informed legislation, parliamentary oversight, evidence-based policymaking, capacity development and digital transformation, while reaffirming the United Nations’ readiness to support Parliament across a broader range of sustainable development priorities.

Chair of the Parliamentary Working Group on the SDGs, Mr. Altynbek Kudaiberdiev, described the Working Group as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Parliament, the United Nations and development partners, stressing that the shared objective is to translate national development priorities into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms. Antje Grawe emphasized that “Parliament is indispensable to achieving the SDGs. Through its legislative, budgetary, oversight and representative functions, it helps ensure that national development priorities are translated into laws, public investment and measurable results that improve people’s lives. The United Nations is proud to deepen its partnership with the Jogorku Kenesh in support of this shared objective.”

The meeting marked another step in the strategic partnership between the Jogorku Kenesh and the United Nations on sustainable development. Building on longstanding cooperation between Parliament and United Nations entities, the Working Group aims to make that engagement more systematic, strategic and results-oriented. It provides a platform for aligning the expertise of the United Nations system with Parliament’s priorities in support of Kyrgyzstan’s National Development Programme 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
