UN in Kyrgyzstan Statement on Nationwide Mourning of COVID-19 Victims
30 July 2020
⠀
Today, in memory of the victims of COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the United Nations in the Kyrgyz Republic expresses deepest sympathies with the families who have suffered the pain of loss of their loved ones. Our wishes and thoughts are with all the victims of the disease, and we wish speedy recovery for all who are fighting this invisible foe at this very moment.
The COVID-19 pandemic has proven globally that it is more than a health crisis. Its socio-economic impact has substantially affected absolutely everyone in the country, with far-reaching consequences. It has hit hardest particularly the most vulnerable groups of our society starting from the elderly people who represent our memory and the roots who make those youngest to stand strong, but also the women, people with disabilities, and, of course, our health workers who with professionalism, generosity and courage accomplish their duties every day to save many lives.
However intimidating COVID-19 might seem, it can be defeated. We see the numbers are slowly going down. In order to decisively contain it further and not to lose any more lives and lay a solid ground for quick recovery, all of us need to act with strong social responsibility for each other and show unprecedented commitment and empathy. We can build back faster and better to achieve sustainable development and therefore resilience against future challenges. The UN system stands in solidarity with the people of Kyrgyzstan and together we will persist through these darkest days.
