Ton Berekesi now has 50 Aberdeen-Angus cows. Marbled beef is produced from steers of this popular meat breed. The cows mature quickly and are ready for insemination at 14-15 months. The cooperative supplies animals for slaughter to Ton Mekenim, the leader of the meat value added chain established under IFAD's Access to Markets Project.
There is an agreement between the parties to supply 150 cattle per year. Ton Berekesi's main problem was a lack of knowledge about the principles of animal fattening and feed production. However, participation in training sessions organized by the project helped to fill these gaps.
This video collection was prepared within the framework of the Access to Markets Project funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The Access to Markets Project (ATMP) is an IFAD-funded project of USD 31.2 million, which was approved in 2016 and will end in December 2024. It aims to raise incomes and enhance economic growth in Kyrgyzstan's pastoralist communities. Its development objective is the improved access and integration of smallholder livestock farmers into remunerative markets for their products, leading to improved and equitable returns.
